BBC to Close BBC Three, Scotland and Radio 4 Extra Channels in 2027
The BBC plans to shut down BBC Three, BBC Scotland, and Radio 4 Extra linear channels in spring 2027, while cutting 100 news jobs to save £5.5 million as part of £500 million in total savings by 2028. Much of the programming will move to BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, YouTube, and Scottish TV slots on BBC One and Two. Scottish Culture Secretary Mairi McAllan called the Scotland closure 'wholly unacceptable,' vowing to raise it with Ofcom, while Liberal Democrat MP Anna Sabine labeled the changes 'death by a thousand cuts' to a key British institution amid falling TV licence sales.
