BMW i3 Samsung SDI 94 Ah Battery Rated For 524,000 Miles

Samsung SDI expects up to 4,600 charging cycles at 25ºC to End-Of-Life (EOL), which in the case of batteries is the point when capacity decreases to 80% (battery still can be used, but is generally not desirable in cars any longer).

Since the BMW i3 (33 kWh) is rated at 114 miles (183 km), 4,600 cycles would be more than 524,000 miles (more than 843,000 km).

It’s one of the best results in the industry and it’s totally doable because the i3 pack is equipped with a thermal management system.

Panasonic plans to eliminate cobalt in EV batteries

TOKYO — Tesla's battery cell supplier Panasonic said on Wednesday it is aiming to develop automotive batteries without using cobalt in the near future, amid soaring prices of the key battery ingredient.

Top battery makers are scrambling to reduce cobalt content in lithium-ion batteries as prices of the mineral have multiplied over the recent years and the spread of electric vehicles is expected to result in cobalt shortages eventually.

"We have already cut down cobalt usage substantially," Kenji Tamura, who is in charge of Panasonic's automotive battery business, said at a meeting with analysts.

"We are aiming to achieve zero usage in the near future, and development is underway."

https://insideevs.com/japan-backs-solid-state-battery-efforts-with-90-million-in-funds/
Vključeni so: Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Panasonic, GS Yuasa, Hitachi...

Še ena novica glede solid-state baterij (univerza v Marburgu in Toyota):

Tudi VW vstopa v svet solid-state baterij:
http://www.greencarcongress.com/2018/06/20180621-vwqs.html
http://www.quantumscape.com/
"Volkswagen will invest US$100 million in QuantumScape and will become the innovative enterprise’s largest automotive shareholder. "

"A solid-state battery could increase the range of the E-Golf to approximately 750 kilometers (466 miles) compared with the present 300 kilometers (186 miles). This battery technology has further advantages over the present lithium-ion technology: higher energy density, enhanced safety, better fast charging capability and—above all—they take up significantly less space."
